A Jewish student at Southern Hills Middle School in Boulder, Colorado, became the victim of severe antisemitic harassment, including being choked with a laptop charger, according to a Title VI complaint from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) filed on June 11. The incident, which occurred in December 2025, was one of many reported examples of bullying directed at the eighth grader over two years. School officials allegedly ignored earlier investigations that identified a hostile environment surrounding the student.
In addition to the laptop cord incident, which included the assailant calling the student a "stupid k---e", the complaint highlights multiple occurrences of derogatory language and actions, such as attempts to play a game labeled "Jew touch tag." In April 2026, a classmate reportedly stated, "Hitler should have killed all the Jews when he had the chance," contributing to a pervasive atmosphere of fear for the victim. The harassment was reportedly so extreme that the student ceased wearing his Star of David necklace, fearing further attacks.
Despite the enforcement of a safety plan and protective order after the laptop cord incident, the ADL claims the protective order was breached immediately. ADL Vice President of Litigation, James Pasch, emphasized that the Boulder Valley School District failed to protect the student adequately, violating Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. In 2025, the ADL recorded 167 antisemitic incidents in Colorado, highlighting a troubling pattern of hate incidents across the state.
The ADL's complaint demands an apology from the school district as well as the implementation of antisemitism training for students. Pasch insists that the school must address the issue of antisemitism directly and demonstrate to the community that such behavior is intolerable within its premises.
