PIRRO FLOATS ‘SERIOUS CHARGES’ FOR VANDALS FOSTERING ALGAL BLOOMS IN REFLECTING POOL

Reflecting pool with algae in the water

Washington, D.C. District Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced on Sunday that anyone involved in vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which promotes algal blooms, will face "serious charges." This statement comes as maintenance workers rush to repair President Donald Trump's multimillion-dollar beautification initiative, which aimed to revitalize the Reflecting Pool by painting its bottom "American flag blue." Unfortunately, after the pool was refilled, algae infestations began to rise, leading to peeling paint.
·
In an interview with Fox News' Peter Doocy, Pirro discussed the repercussions faced by individuals, including an ABC News journalist, whom Trump accused of attempting to "rip the rubber off the surface" of the pool. Pirro emphasized that those culpable for vandalism would be prosecuted to the "full extent" of the law, with citations already issued for previous infractions. "If there are more serious products that are put into the reflecting pool to create more algae or a bigger problem, then we’ll consider more serious charges," she stated, noting that vandalism is classified as a misdemeanor.
·
U.S. Park Police arrested 67-year-old David Hearn, a former Olympian, for vandalizing the Reflecting Pool on Saturday. He faces a misdemeanor charge for the destruction of government property but claimed his intent was merely to feel a detached piece of the pool's liner. Meanwhile, Trump reported that the algae problem is "75% gone," with plans in place to repair the detached liner within the upcoming week in preparation for the July Fourth festivities.
