A new report says the Democratic Socialists of America is preparing to push a far-left platform that would dramatically reshape the federal government if it ever gained real power. The group has already been gaining influence through candidates like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and other members of the party’s hard-left wing.
According to the report, the updated platform could call for eliminating the U.S. Senate and the Department of Defense. It would also reportedly hand Congress the power to choose a new executive branch and judiciary, making both subordinate to lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
The platform would also push full amnesty for illegal aliens, building on the group’s current positions calling for an end to deportations, open travel across borders, and voting rights for noncitizens. In plain English, that means a sweeping rewrite of how America handles borders, elections, and federal power.
The DSA’s growing influence comes as several of its endorsed candidates have knocked off more moderate Democrats in recent elections. Supporters of the socialist movement say it reflects the energy of the base, while critics say it shows just how far left the party has drifted.
Some centrist Democrats are now organizing pushback, trying to strengthen the non-socialist wing of the party and defend the free market. Even so, the report suggests the socialist faction is no longer on the fringe—it is now fighting for real control inside the Democratic coalition.
